It was Sue’s birthday on 14 July, so we went for a few days to Rye in East Sussex, a very nice old town. Close by is Winchelsea, another historic town. I don’t know if you remember Spike Milligan, but he’s buried in the cemetery of St Thomas’s Church. I left a Sam Stone on his gravestone. The lettering on the headstone isn’t easy to decipher, and is in Gaelic font and the inscription is in a mixture of Irish and English. Milligan wanted to have the words “I told you I was ill’ on his headstone, but the church authorities wouldn’t allow it. Instead it’s there, translated into Irish:\u00a0D\u00fairt m\u00e9 leat go raibh m\u00e9 breoite<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
