Dear John, Diane, Max, Gabe and Sam:
Last week I took a SamStone with me when I went to Florida to see my
son, John. The weather was 77 beautiful degrees when I landed at the
airport. The following two days, Sam went Christmas shpping with us
as well as to the beach a couple of times with us. The beach was
"heaven on earth."
On December 13, I headed for Lake Placid, Florida, inland near the
middle part of Florida. Brrr. . .the temperature dropped 50 degrees
in less than twenty four hours. In Lake Placid, I visited Harold and
Mary Gibbs, both around 90 years old and we reminisced about our 50
years of friendship and their daughter, Bobbie (RIP). After touring
the town they live in, I found a perfect place for a SamStone, on Lake
Clay, a stone's throw away from their home on a pier pole, just
waiting to be found. Happy holidays!!

Ever since he joined me at duck brook, Sam has been adventuring with
me for the past year. He's been ice climbing in the whites, ran a
marathon in florida, and scaled the cliffs of nevada. When I took
this photo, I was visiting my best friend in DC and snapped it a few
hours before the unexpected arrival of her baby boy, eli.

Diane, John, Max, Gabe. . .and Sam
I sent a SamStone today to one of my friends and a former colleague in
Valparaiso, Indiana in remembrance of her son, Nick Ellis, who died
suddenly at less than two months old on 2/22/2006. On December 26,
2010, he would have been five years old.
I am one of those friends who felt I never had just the right words to
say to her and never knew how often to ask "how are you doing". I
hope this SamStone will help connect your family to hers, since you
both have experienced the tragic loss of a son.
Take care,
Cheryl Leach
My friend Hugh wrote:
John, A few weeks ago, my friend Les Bryson and I took our sons to France for a few days to play golf in Le Touquet. I put a Sam Stone on the highest point of the La Mer golf course and enclose a couple of pictures of the view. Unfortunately, the battery on my camera ran out, so I was unable to take more. Forgive the dodgy clothes, but it was very cold and the jacket was warm
I remembered Sam, you and family at Disney yesterday.
Just came back from Florida. Rashi and Kids coming back Tuesday.
I have this PBC thingie tomorrow. Let us touch base during lunch.
I will give a call in the morning.

On November 17, 2010 I was on a tour of Morocco and we stopped at the
lake formed by the Alhansalis Dam. I thought it was a perfect place
to leave a SamStone. The view is so beautiful.
CHUCKLE!
I have placed a Sam stone at the base of a World Class Fountain made
entirely of Carrera Marble, in the second largest "Paris" in the world,
Paris, Tx. I took pictures but have to figure how to get them to you or put
on Sam's site, at 68 I'm not the IT whiz I probably should be. If nothing
else I will send the info to you and you can place it if you want. Someone
should find it soon and so on an on it will go. What a great remembrance. I
hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving, you still have much
to be thankful for!
Sincerely
Chuck
Good Morning John and Diane,
Diane, thank you for your kind note, thank you for sending Sam's stones, I
will try to place them well.
For you both, I have placed the first stone on 11/19/10 on the 3G Ranch,
after leaving the ranch to return to Houston, I decided I was not satisfied
with its placement and will move it to the platform of a Windmill with a
view of miles and miles of verdant hills and valleys. The ranch is located 2
miles off Texas highway 71, 18 miles Southeast of Brady, Tx. the actual
Heart of the state of Texas. it is located in Mason County, Tx. and sits
along side large and many times roaring, Lost Creek, a beautiful, meandering
clear water, Granite,Quartz and sand bottom. I hope this will be a welcome
addition to your map and Sam's memory! I am carrying the second one this
Tuesday to Paris, Tx., called by Texas Monthly magazine, the most beautiful
small town in the state. I was raised there from shortly after my birth
until my 7th birthday when we moved to Houston. It has quite a history if
you should be interested. The stone will be placed on another, smaller ranch
owned by my cousin and probably near a small lake on the property which is
also covered with beautiful Hardwood trees with many colors this time of
year. the Ranch is located off Texas highway 271 and is halfway between
Paris and the Oklahoma border, there is a small town, Hugo, Ok, on the
Oklahoma side to help you locate it. The ranch is about 15 miles out of
Paris.
Love to you both!
