I found a SamStone in the Sequoia – Kings Canyon Wilderness, on Nov.
5, 2010. More specifically, the stone was at the base of a pine tree
in Belle Canyon, elevation 8,270 feet, near the junction of four
trails. The nearest landmark on most maps is Seville Lake. This
location is at least ten miles from the nearest road. I've
attached a photograph I took of my primitive camp, which was a few
feet from where I found this SamStone.

Sam's fun loving spirit is now at the Porter County Career and
Technical Education Center in Valparaiso, Indiana.
I gave one SamStone to Jon Groth, director of this Career Center,
pictured at his desk with his SamStone currently being used as a
paper weight. It is very likely that this SamStone will remain on
his desk, honoring Sam's memory for many years to come.

I also gave a SamStone to Dave Kenning, my son's most influential
high school teacher. Dave was John's electronics technology teacher,
many many years ago. He is pictured in his electronics supplies
closet with his SamStone. Whew I've never seen so much stuff in this
organized, chaotic looking supplies closet. I think Dave plans to
place his newly acquired SamStone in his "electronic haven". Stay
tuned to see if any of his current students find it.

I placed a SamStone, secretly, in Kimbria Younkin's special rock
collection in Granbury, Texas on October 22, 2010. Kimbria is my 11
year old niece and I know she will treasure the SamStone when she
finds it.
She reminds me of Sam in that she loves to have fun, is very
musically talented and is a really good wake boarder (like
snowboarding, except on water). She loves English in school this
year, but interestingly earned a perfect score in science on the
Texas State Proficiency (TAKS) exam last year.
She is a great kid, just like Sam.

I went to burning man this year for the first time. After a very
intense week I walked out alone in the wind on the playa in my bare
feet. I went to talk to god or anyone who would listen. I was crying.
It was literally the middle of nowhere I was walking in a straight
line, just walking. I walked directly up to a samstone staring up at
me, joyfully, with my own name shining back at me. I stared at it in
disbelief for a moment and then a thought came to me. It said "yes,
I'm listening and so is the desert. It knows your name and so do I,
for we are all connected". Well, I just melted. I put it in my pocket
and brought it home to Canada. It sits on the windowsill of my
bathroom (my favorite room) and reminds me that I am never alone.
Best memory of burning man. Blessings, and Thank you.

Name = Cheryl Leach Email = cherylrleach@gmail.com Message = Hi John, Diane and family I placed my first SamStone today in a very special place in Mesa, Arizona in remembrance of Weston Letter, a toddler who drowned on 5/31/1998. Today (9/23) would have been his 16th birthday. I know Weston's family will feel the love being passed onto them when they find the SamStone. Weston's family has kept his memory alive by creating and implementing a water safety education program in the Arizona public school system, which reminded me of how you are keeping Sam's memory alive by passing out SamStones and offering scholarships to children. Hats off to two wonderful families, who love their boys and are doing such great things to keep their memories alive and helping others at the same time. (ps, I am so glad my son, John Leach had the opportunity to work at IBM with John, so I became aware of your SamStones. Take care! Cheryl Leach (Valparaiso, Indiana and Gilbert, Arizona)

I live in Florida and work at a chiropractic office where I was given
a SamStone by my patients husband, Bob. After hearing the story about
Sam and the stones I could not wait to pass it on. So…..while on my
honeymoon in Mexico I left the SamStone near a payphone at the resort.
The resort was in Playa del Morales, near Cancun at the El Dorado
Royale. God Bless

Got one of Sam's Stones from my Mom and Dad who live in New
Hampshire. They received it from John (I think), at a wedding in
Vermont. I placed it on top of a bluff between Pocatello, Idaho and
Inkom, Idaho. This bluff overlooks the southeastern idhao foothills
just above the Portneuf Gap. The distant view is over American Falls
Reservoir down onto the Snake River Plain where the Bonneville Flood
happened so many years ago.
