Dear John,
today we placed the first Samstone you kindly gave me in JNB in our stone garden, tight here in the middle of the map. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Wadenswil,+Obere+Leihofstrasse+69&sll=47.222441,8.66592&sspn=0.000661,0.001039&ie=UTF8&ll=47.222437,8.665924&spn=0.000661,0.001039&t=h&z=20
And here is a picture of the surroundings and view of the place with Sam's stone on the bottom left..
Placing the other two will take some more time as we are not planning to go there soon but I will keep you posted/
Kind regards / Freundliche Grüsse / Cordialement
Phil

John –
I meant to write you sooner, but have been so focused on helping Kirsten pack up her classroom, I forgot. Sorry. The box with the SamStones arrived on Monday, so on Tuesday we took them in to school. Kirsten photocopied the letter and card and we gave one to each of the kids, along with a SamStone. To say they were thrilled is an understatement. Kirsten also read your letter aloud to the class, and it was obvious your words really touched them.
I also wanted to tell you that we decided to leave the SamStone that was pictured in the photos I sent previously (in Kirsten's room) with the school secretary in the main office. She is a very favorite person of ours, and when I gave her the stone and told her the story, she shared with me that she lost her 16 yr. old son in a drive by shooting (many years ago). She said that she will really treasure the stone, and I wouldn't be surprised if she contacts you. Her name is Mrs. Yarber, and she is a dear, dear lady. I am attaching another photo of the class with their stones, and a picture of Kirsten with Mrs. Yarber (can you tell that Kirsten hasn't had much sleep?) By the way, Joseph, the little boy who's step father was killed on May 1, is in the front row right corner (wearing glasses).
Blessings,
Brynn

New comment on your post #267 "Find a SamStone ? " Author : Heather Tenda (IP: 75.69.195.200 , c-75-69-195-200.hsd1.vt.comcast.net) E-mail : jhjotenda@comcast.net URI : Whois : http://ws.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl?queryinput=75.69.195.200 Comment: To get my kids 5 and 8 into hiking with me we started doing letterboxing. Anyway, Tues. May 27th was my b-day and my idea of a perfect bday is going for a hike with my kids. That did not happen for several reasons so our hike was delayed until wed. may 28th. We walked the river trail at the vt. audobon center. It's a beautiful, peaceful setting and my kids love skipping stones in the river. We did not find our letterbox that day but my 8 yr old spotted a rock in the river with writing on it. Jack was so excited to find this treasure! We brought the stone home and did the research. I love this wonderful tribute to Sam and i am amazed at the map! I am left even more in awe of the fact that we found this stone on Sam's bday. We have not yet decided where we will bring this stone(maybe back to the site we found it). This has been a very thought provoking experience for me as a mother of two beautiful boys and i am trying to keep Sam in my thoughts so i can take mor! e time to enjoy each step of the way! John, I finally went to a place I thing deserve to receive a Sam
Stone. The place is Parque da Cidade, Niteroi – Rio de Janeiro,
Brasil, It is a place people go to fly with paraglide. Putting the
stone in such nice and special place, make me think he was there, on
my mind he was there with me, because on my mind and with the people
with me we were thinking he would enjoy the place, the view is
astonishing.

Hello!
I was given a samstone at my last show in burlington, vermont, I play
clarinet with a band there. I have traveled to Europe to play music
here this summer and brought the stones with me. The night before
last, I placed a samstone in a beautiful cobbled corner of a street
nearly 1000 years old- I am in Riga, Latvia, a VERY old city- where
my friend and I put on a very successful impromtu concert- there was
no one around when we started playing, but when we were done there
was a huge crowd and a video camera filming us!! It was a beautiful
night, and it felt like the right time and place to leave it in this
beautiful stone corner near huge medeival churches of beautiful
architecture, and long cobbled streets with old stone bridges.

My new friend Piotr says:

Hello,
I enjoyed talking to you at ISCAS 2008.
I left the stone you gave me at Otter Cove in Monterey Bay, California. This is
a cove near San Francisco with kelp forests, sea lions, seals, and
occasionally, otters. I was at a depth of 5.1 meters when I placed the stone,
so the stone is probably around 5.5 meters deep. A photo is attached.
Other photos from the dive are at:
http://web.mit.edu/pmitros/www/dive.zip
This is a large (282MB) file. I will take it down in a couple of days. I think
it is probably not worth downloading, since most of the photos are of low
quality (one really needs a better camera for underwater photography). In case
you do not heed my warning, images 4705-4749 are at Otter Cove, and the rest
are from other parts of Monterey Bay. I took panoramic photos directly over
where I left the stone, but they did not come out, since the lens had water
drops on it.
