Ushuaia – Argentina

Hey John,

I just came down from the Martial Glacier above Ushuaia, Argentina (southern tip of Tierra del Fuego on the Beagle Channel).  It is a really beautiful spot – snow covered mountains at your back and water (with more snow covered mountains) in front of you.

Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I left one of the Sam stones up on the glacier high above the city.  I took some pictures of the views from there – I´ll send them to you when I get back (as well as add to the website).  It looked like there were a lot of great snowboarding options there in winter (as long as you didn´t mind walking your board back up afterwards – no chairlifts).

I will be boarding the boat for Antarctica tomorrow.  They technically don´t want you to take or leave anything on the continent, but if you are OK with a ¨¨don´t ask, don´t tell¨policy, then I am too…….

Sao Paulo – Brazil

John,

I received one of the Samstones from the hands of Joanne Martin, during her trip to Brazil, in the week of November/5th. As you know, she came to the keynote speaker in the TLC-BR Annual Meeting, and brought one of the stones specifically to be left in São Paulo (by the way, Joanne, I hope you had a great and safe trip back to US, and brought home some good stories about your new Brazilian friends).

As Joanne can tell you in details, John, IBM Building is very close to the most important Park we have in São Paulo (Parque do Ibirapuera) and we (I, Liguroi, Spagnuolo and some others) go to the park every Friday to run. I promised Joanne to find a good place in the Park and leave one Samstone there. The opportunity appeared last wednesday (that was similar to a Friday due to a National holiday we had on Thursday) and Spagnuolo and I went to the Park and had the opportunity to leave the stone there.

In the first map below you will see IBM Building (red “A” at Rua Tutoia) and the park, represented by the green arrow (Ayrton Senna Tunnel goes underground and therefore all the green area is continuous and belong to the park). In the second map you can see the exact location of the stone. You see the same green arrow and then a round building northwest (with a yellow circle around it) close to the left superior corner of the map (“northwest” of the green arrow). This building houses “São Paulo Planetarium” (the reason he is a round building) and I positioned the stone in front of the Information board that is close to the main entrance. We assumed people that potentially go to the board for information is the kind of people that can pay attention to that “Sam” in one of the faces of the stone, and may get it and then anyything can happen.

We never know, but maybe someone that caught it will make contact through the site. Anyway, a Samstone is in São Paulo now. I hope it helps spreading Sam smile, hapiness and passion.

Wilson (and Spa).

The Acropolis – Athens , Greece

Posted by: samstone @ 5:53 pm

My friend Peggy says:  This week we put a Sam stone in front of the parthenon at the acropolis in Athens, Greece. The cool part was that we carried 2 of them all over Athens and even Santorini and George kept referring to them as “Sam”, as in “is Sam coming with us today?”. I finally decided to bring the other one I have home to leave at the high point of the run I do regularly in San Jose.

I placed a stone that was made by a girl from Vermont named
Elizabeth. She made it for me and I placed it in Sturbridge, MA at
Wells State park, down a trail by the water side up in a large old
pine tree that has a large critter living under it. It’s at eye level
and is bright yellow in color, good luck finding it. Susan
