Gardez – Afghanistan

Posted by: samstone @ 9:29 am

John,

Here are some pictures taken on a qalat (large adobe fortress) in Gardez, Afghanistan. I put this stone inside of what was apparently a vent on the bottom of one of the ramparts.  Hope things are going well in Eastern Europe.  I'll send you another picture when I go back through Kyrgystan.
Here is a picture (60) of the actual rampart in which I placed the stone behind me. Image 54 is the qalat where Alexander the Great supposedly once stayed. Image number 57 is me with a local policeman that we had just trained on supply requisition procedures.

Gruta Orlândia – São Paulo – Brazil.

Hi John and Diane, I put a Sam Stone in the most beautiful place I could find: inside a covered rock slit, or hollow, situated in Gruta (Grotto), Orlândia – São Paulo – Brazil. The slit lies in front of the most beautiful waterfall of the place and near several rock stairs that lead the visitor to other waterfalls or to inside a forest. The Sam Stone isn't difficult to be found. I not only captured the images, but the nature's music of the moment, or, rather, nature's musician, a harmless cicada that was singing at that moment. I released the musician after the photo session, so he could continue with his symphony. I hope you like it!

The first two photos were of a Sam Stone placed near Hemmingway's
boat, Pilar, at his farm in San Francisco de Paula, Cuba.

The next four photos were of a Sam Stone placed at Buenavista, a
restored French coffee plantation in the Las Terrazas biosphere in
western Cuba.    The area of the plantation is where coffee beans used
to be dried, and includes lots of trees.  Las Terrazas is a UNESCO
site.

Badlands – South Dakota

Posted by: samstone @ 2:39 pm

Hi John,

Attached are 3 Samstones I have placed over the past year. The first one is on the beach of Achao which is a small town in the southern Chilean archipelago of Chiloe. The second one I placed at Sylvan Lake in South Dakota, and the third was placed in the Badlands in South Dakota. I went to Camp Abnaki with Sam for two weeks and it was one of my most favorite and unforgettable sessions in my 9 years at camp.

Toledo, Seville – Spain

Posted by: samstone @ 9:11 am

Hi!  Here are some photos from Spain.  I enjoyed all three of these
places and think they were the perfect place to leave one of Sam's
stones.  Each was a quiet, picturesque location with a great view.

Photos 6216 and 6217 were made in the Jewish Quarters of Tolado.
Photos 6401 and 6402 were made at Plaza D'Elvira in Seville.  Photos
6502-6504 were made inside the palace grounds at Alhambra.
