John, I had the privilege of placing the first of my two Samstones. This stone was placed in the garden near Dong Yuan Theater in Beijing, China. The spot is just outside the wall of the Forbidden City. One unusual thing. You will notice that it is among similar size stones and it appeared that one was missing. That is the spot where I put it. On the 0721 shot, the wall in the background is the Forbidden City outer wall.

We found our sam stone on top of Mount Dickey in Campton, NH on May
12, 2008. We took it home not knowing what it was. It's now on its
way to the artic circle where it will be placed on a norwegian
island.

We have placed the sam stone on display at Essex Family Dental. Sam
and his family have been patients of ours for a long time and they
always brought great joy and smiles to our practice.
We all think this is a great idea to keep Sam's spirit alive.

Michelle and I were in Port Elizabeth, South Africa this last week
(April 8th-14th, 2008). On Sunday, the 13th I did the Ironman here.
On Monday before we left, I placed this stone on this beautiful beach
right next to the Indian Ocean.

Folks…
This is such a cool story. I was speaking with my friend Marc this morning about the trip he and his wife Peggy took to Antarctica in February. He showed me the route they had taken and I noticed that he had also visited South Georgia Island. I’d never spoken with him about SamStones. I told him how Jean’s mom’s friends had placed a SamStone on Shackleton’s grave. About 30 minutes later he sent me the following photo..Look on the lower left.. Is that amazing or what ? It truly is a small world.. and Sam’s spirit is all around it.

I am a colleague of Sam’s dad, John, who slipped me a stone many moons ago. I have been waiting to place it in a scene of nature, raw beauty and fun that I associate with (what I believe to be) Sam’s life in Vermont. I finally remembered the stone on a trip to Portland Maine and laid the stone in Cutler Park overlooking the islands of Casco Bay.
Who knows where the spirit will move it next, but it has touched me, so thank you all for sharing this life in a way that touches even the social periphery. Stay well.

Rand says:
John,
It was our son Reid who had borrowed a pack from a friend at school who had lent it to Eric. When Reid got up to the Village he emptied it out only to find a Sam stone remembering that Eric had borrowed this pack as well. He placed it in this remote village where he was doing a mission project.

Sam has a wonderful lake-side view of Hamiliton Lake, in Holland, MA.
He has a beautiful spot in the sun, that faces west for daily sunset
celebration. He is very close to the water, and may get splashed
once the lake thaws and boats start motoring by, Although we did not
have the opportunity to meet and know Sam, we do know of him and feel
a connection.
