John, two weeks ago my wife Johnine and I returned from Spain where we were Pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. Our pilgrimage lasted 12 days and we walked 190 miles through northern Spain. Needless to say it was a great trip! Despite several rainy days where we trudged through the mud, we found the Spanish people delightful, the food and wine outstanding and the scenery awesome.
Part of the Camino is the
Cruz de Ferro, a large mounted cross high in the mountains. As part of our Catholic tradition one brings a rock from their home and places it at the foot-of-the-cross as a symbolic gesture. I wanted you to know that I left a SamStone there that I carried from my yard. It’s been a while since you gave me my first SamStone, however when I first learned of this tradition I thought immediately of you and your family.
Take care John and we’ll talk soon

Hi John and Denise,
Want to let you know we hit the road. We realized we didn’t have time to connect with you to see about getting some Sam stones to place along the way, so we’ve started making our own and leaving one in each state. In some places, we’ve done a little drawing with the initials of everyone in your family and in some places we’ve made a stone.
This one is at a rest area in Illinois:

A long time ago, may be one yaer, I found a Samstone. I decided, that
I will show a very nice and extraordinary place to place the stone.
Now I am in Italy and I visited Pompeii. I placed the Stone in a
geocache at the Amphitheater (GC5A789-What’s on stage today at the
Theater of Pompeii?). You’ll find a lot of pictures if you follow this
link. Have fun and good luck von com.

ohn,
I trust you are all well in Vermont. Sue and I are just back from a ten day break in Italy – five nights in Rome and five in Sorrento. While in Sorrento, we took a day trip to

Positano and the Amalfi coast.
In past centuries, when Italy was a collection of independent city-states and small republics, there were four maritime republics – Venice, Genoa, Pisa and Amalfi, of which I attach a photograph, taken from the sea. Even today, there is a boat race where a boat with a crew of 24 rowers represent each republic. In one of the little squares, there is one of the former Amalfi boats, on which I left a Sam Stone.
