I left a Sam Stone on one of the pathways used by tomb building workers 3500 years ago. These pathways were used by the workers when they crossed the hills from where they lived to where they worked creating the Pharaohs’ underground tombs in the . Apparently the workers lived in temporary accommodation (huts for living) in the Valley for eight days and then had two days off back home, a few miles away. Every few days, people would use these paths to bring the workers supplies of food and water. They left their tools in other huts near the tombs they were working on.

I deposited a Sam Stone in the Western Desert, at Masseteb Qila’al-Dab’a – ust putside Balat in the Dakhla Oasis in the Western Desert of Egypt.

This is a Mastaba, which is a type of ancient Egyptian tomb in the form of a flat-roofed, rectangular structure with outward sloping sides where early kings were buried before the Pyramids and the underground tombs in the Valley of the Kings.  Mastabas were usually constructed out of mud-bricks and were used for burial of nobles long after kings were buried in pyramids.

The mastaba is located at 25 33 23 N, 29 16 48E

I found a sam stone! On the bank of Lago Chico in the Aysen region in
Southern Chile. Im on a trip down here studying abroad in patagonia,
and we were surveying birds at a remote lake in the future Patagonia
national park. Sure enough, i look down and at the waters edge is this
tan stone. i definately felt the love of whoever left it there. I
intend to place it somewhere else down here in patagonia, and hope
that someday someone else will find it and feel the intentions of
those before him or her. Much love to Sam and the family that put this
all together!

I was a senior when Sam died. At that point in life I knew that I
wanted to be a teacher. For some reason I was surprisingly affected by
the whole situation. Maybe because we were all Jonesville kids? Who
knows. I just remember that when I got to college I knew that I needed
to make sure that Sam’s mark was left in Western Maine. I remember
getting my SamStones my freshman year, and holding on to them for all
four years. I could never quite decide where Sam’s legacy would be
best left. Finally, while I was packing up my room the day before
graduation I went for it. I threw a SamStone up onto the overhang
between Scott North and Scott West. You can find this building at 245
Main Street, Farmington, Maine.

This heart shaped SamStone was left on a rubber sap collection bowl (made from half a coconut shell) on 1/11/14. The rubber tree plantation was in

Cu Chi, Vietnam, about 20 minutes from the Cu Chi Tunnels made during the Vietnam War.
