Mud Grand Mosque – Djenne, Mali
Hi John – I was having trouble getting up on your website, so I thought I’d just send you an email.
Thanks for sending me the additional stones. I really enjoy having them and taking them with me when I travel.
I just returned from a 2-week trip to Mali. The city of Segou is right on the Niger River. You told me that Sam loved water, so I threw a stone into the river. There is all sorts of activity along the river in Segou: people washing clothes, fishing, bathing. I guarantee you he won’t be bored there.
I also traveled east from Segou about 4 hours by car to the town of Djenne to see the Grand Mosque, which is the world’s largest mud structure. A portion of one wall came down recently on the mosque after heavy rains, and there were piles of dirt all over that were being mixed into mud to repair the wall. I put a samstone in a pile of dirt outside of the mosque, with the hope that it might end up being incorporated into the building. I’ve included a photo above of the mosque; the small building in the foreground has a pile of dirt in front of it, and that is where I placed the samstone. The 2nd picture shows the stone in the dirt.
My daughter also put a samstone in our yard last month, in Seattle. I can send you the address if you’d like to incorporate that.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Laura

Hi John – I left a samstone in Tanzania last December. I'm traveling
to Mali in early November and would like to distribute a few stones.
we're also going to Uganda next summer and I'd enjoy leaving some
there as well.
Hope all is well with you.
Laura
