My friend Mike placed a SamStone in his garden
Great talking to you in Anaheim, John.
I owed you a comeback from that meeting: A picture of my daughter, Lauren, with the “Sam stone” you gifted to me. I’m attaching a couple of those pictures to this e-mail.
You mentioned that you were tracking these placements — a great idea, and an wonderful legacy. So, for your records, our Sam is located here:

Hi John and Diane,
I finally had the opportunity to place Sam’s stone somewhere that I had been thinking of since you gave it to me. I’m not really sure how people post this information – I don’t have MySpace, Facebook, or whatever, and don’t know how they work, so let me just send you the pictures. Anyway, I had help from my son Adam (14) to place this stone – I had to give him a boost to reach the spot. Please view these in order, as they zoom out. (Adam is the lad in yellow t-shirt and hat with red backpack in images 1987, 1988). The actual spot was Adam’s idea – to be out in the sun, but out of reach so probably will stay for quite a while. In the future, we or others can check to see if it’s still there.
Ruth and our two daughters, Elana and Sarah, were with us on this trip and aware of my plans for this stone – in fact I had to borrow Sarah’s camera, because I’m stuck living in the past with my film camera – not easy to email. Our other son Ben was stuck home taking college final exams, but I showed this to him as well.
Anyway, this was very meaningful for all of us, and especially for Adam and me together at that moment. I just want you to know our thoughts are with you.
Sincerely, Dan and family.

Dear Diane,
Sam and I just got back from Germany. I’ve sent along some pictures of
Samstones at Checkpoint Charlie (the border crossing between the American
and Soviet sectors and the location of may dramatic events during the Cold
War) and one of the last stretches of the original Berlin Wall (known by the
East German’s as the “Anti-Fascist Protection Wall”) At Checkpoint Charlie
there are 5 windows on the side of the structure, I placed the Samstone on
the bottom right corner of the second window from the left. And I placed
the samstone on a metal gate in front of a long stretch of the original
Berlin wall. They have placed a gate in front of the wall to protect it
from “woodpeckers” (the people who chip away pieces of it)
Thinking of you.
Love,
Martha

Our friend Brittany put a SamStone on the Vermont State house lawn to commemorate a very nice day she spent there with Sam. She wrote:
My friend Samara and I put this samstone at the tree that sam sat against behind the state house lawn in montpelier… It is the same tree as in this picture:

I received the following from my friend Fukunaga-san

ohn,
I am now in Singapore to attend the F2F meeting of an Academy study.
This morning I went to the Singapore Zoo and throw the SamStone just below the huge tree where the famous zoo’s Orang Utans live.
I usually do not carry cameras and could not show you the photos, but it is full of bushes and grasses, so we cannot see the final shape of the stone anyway.
So, I attach the map of the zoo below.
The place the Samstone lies is between two Orang Utans symbols next to the information and camera symbols at the center of the map.
The zoo was full of joy by children and parents.
So, I though it is a good place for us to remember Sam.

Mike James left SamStones at the sites of two builidngs that he helped build on a mission trp to mexico. Here are soem pictures and some nfo on the trip
In late February, I lead a team of families from Vermont to Reynosa, Mexico. During our week long missions trip, we built two small homes for two Mexican families. One of the families had only days before lost their home and their youngest child, a two year old daughter, to a fire. Rand Larson had given me two Sam Stones before the trip, and on our last day when we dedicated the homes, we placed a Sam Stone next to each one.
While I never met Sam, I am sure we would have enjoyed having him on the team! It seems he was a fun, energetic, and talented guy.
You can find out more about our trip and the homes at http://reynosa07.blogspot.com
You can also view the locations of the two homes and the Sam Stones….
Site 1 – it is a blank lot in the middle of the photo

Site 2 – something strange with these pictures and the long lines… the site is the blank lot just to the right of the double smears on the photo…
